A love of paddle boarding turns into a passion project: SEA Paddle NYC

More than a decade ago, when standup paddle boarding was just a blip on the sonar, one of our founders saw the sport’s potential—as a new way to exercise and get out on the water, but also a way to bring people together for a common cause.

A surfer, environmentalist and all around mensch, Harris helped organize the inaugural SEA Paddle NYC back in 2007, a grueling 25-mile standup paddle race around the island of Manhattan. The event raised money for Surfers’ Environmental Alliance (a NJ-based non-profit) and several autism charities (the ocean has been found to have a calming affect on those with autism). Fast forward to today and the event has drawn hundreds of competitors from all over the world and has raised over $3 million.

The past few years, while Harris continues to paddle and raise money for SEA Paddle NYC, By & Large has supported the event with pro bono creative services—logo, website, social content and event posters that have been recognized by the Davey Awards and the NJ Ad Club.
